The Simple Care Guide for Slippers, Vests & More
Wool is one of nature’s most magical materials—soft, breathable, and incredibly durable. But like all natural things, it thrives with a little love and care. Whether you're slipping into your favorite wool slippers or layering up in your cozy vest, this guide will help you keep your Sheep Sisters wool products looking and feeling amazing for years to come.
1. No Need to Wash Often
Wool is naturally self-cleaning and odor-resistant. Most of the time, a good airing out is enough. Hang your wool item outside for a few hours—ideally in fresh air but away from direct sunlight. That’s often all it takes to feel like new again.
2. Spot Clean When You Can
Spilled something? No panic. Most little messes can be removed by hand or hairbrush.
-
Dab (don’t rub!) the stain with a damp cloth and a drop of wool-friendly soap or baby shampoo.
-
Gently rinse and blot with a towel.
-
Lay flat to dry.
3. When It’s Time to Wash…
If your wool needs a deeper clean:
-
Use the gentle/wool cycle on your washing machine.
-
Cold water only (30°C max).
-
Always use wool detergent, preferably with lanolin to protect the fabric.
-
Place the item in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection.
4. Dry It Right
Never tumble dry wool.
-
Reshape your item gently and lay it flat on a towel.
-
Avoid direct heat sources like radiators or strong sun.
-
Let it dry slowly—your wool will thank you.
5. Pills and Fuzz? No Problem
A little pilling is normal with natural wool. Just remove gently with:
-
A fabric shaver, or
-
A sweater stone
Do it carefully and only when needed—don’t overdo it.
6. Store Smartly
When you’re not using your wool:
-
Store it in a dry, breathable space.
-
Keep moths away with lavender sachets or cedar blocks.
-
Don’t squish—wool needs space to breathe.
